Ice Storm 2007
The Ice Storm in December of 2007 brought our community together like never before. For 9 days there was no electricity. Everyone in town pulled together and pooled resources. We spent much of our daytime hours doing what we could in our homes. Keeping water pipes from freezing became a priority for everyone. Small generators were heard buzzing throughout town. Neighbors were helping neighbors, sharing what they could.
The Olsburg American Legion Building became the center of activity. Armed with a large generator, the heat was kept on to provide a place of refuge for those who had no other means of heating their homes. Meals were prepared by volunteers everyday. There is no way to list everyone who helped in preparing meals, keeping children entertained and providing companionship.
In the evenings, folks would gather after supper to play games, visit and discuss the day's accomplishments and news.
