Olsburg's Loberg Grocery Adds New Equipment
As small town grocery stores are fading into the past, Loberg Grocery in Olsburg has invested in the community b
y expanding the services they offer.
Alan and Gloria Loberg were faced with the decision of closing the doors of their business in late 2010, unless an alternative presented itself as a solution.
"After lots of discussion, we decided to try expanding what we offer in the way of services. A hood exhaust system, new grill and deep fryer seemed like a logical step since we were already open for lunch and serving burgers and fries on a much smaller set up." explains Alan.
"We didn't want to close and leave the community without a grocery store. This community means a lot to us and we want to do what we can to help out. We just felt like if we could offer another service that would bring people in, it would help fill a gap and at the same time help us on the grocery side as well. " Gloria added.
After taking a couple of weekends to complete the installation, the new equipment was unveiled and has been well received by Loberg Grocery customers. Gloria has offered noon meals since the Loberg's bought the business nearly 4 years ago. Freshly made sandwiches, potato salad, deviled eggs, brownies, cookies, scones and other delights are also available.
On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, Loberg Grocery is the gathering place from 5 - 8 PM each night. Wednesday is Pizza Night and Taco Thursday is well, tacos. Taco salad, taco burgers, Mama and Papa Nachos are also on the menu.
With the addition of the grill, some options are open for other offerings which the Lobergs are looking forward to.
Lobergs held a Chicken Fried Steak Night at the Olsburg American Legion on a Saturday night recently which was on a free will donation basis. "The renovations were costly but worth it." says Alan. "We thought we would do this dinner as a way to help offset some of those expenses and at the same time bring the community together for an evening of fun."
It worked. Plans were for 150 people but went well over that. Estimates are that at least 200 attended the standing room only event. The Lobergs were "blown away" by the support.
"We are completely overwhelmed by this community. We've always know we had the support of Olsburg and response to this dinner just confirms that we've done the right thing. We love this town."
Olsburg loves you too, Alan and Gloria. Thanks to this spunky couple, Olsburg still has a grocery store, a great place to grab a meal and open doors as a community gathering place. Talk about service!
